Posts: 10 12/18/05 19:35:26	Tags : None I occasionally pop in here to ask a question since I will most likely be going from my 36 to a 42 when my son goes off to college and I have more "boat time" for overnights & weeks at a time. After sailing on the 36, I just put the cockpit cushions in the aft cabin, but I think the 42 lends itself much more to wanting the cabin to be "made up" as a cabin for guests. I'm wondering if anyone has a good system for avoiding dragging the cushions inside. Everything else I keep back there now will easily fit into the "garage" on the 42. Thanks, Mike

Posts: 391 12/19/05 20:10:35	Maybe I'm missing the point of Mike's question, and of what others do with their cushions when underway......but, when we're on the boat, the cushions are up in the cockpit (unless there is heavy rain, wet cushions are a whole other can of worms). When we leave the boat, the cushions go on the berth in the rear cabin (the berth stays made up for company at all times). Our cushions are attached with snaps in the cockpit so there isn't any issue of sliding when heeled over. Rod Williams Azure, #343, 2-cabin Alameda/San Francisco Bay, CA.

When cruising for extended periods (ie..pacific ocean runs) I use the stock cushions from Catalina. The long cockpit cushions store easily under the dodger over the companionway when I leave the vessel and the other smaller cushions up forward in the shower stall in the main berth. (I have removed the forward head shower door...as it was always in the way and limited storage of bulky items). 2.) When in home port (SF Bay Alameda Ca) I store the stock cushions in my garage and utilize a set of "Bottom Siders" for sailing on SF Bay. These (no long cushions in this set!..two for port and starboard seats in the cockpit) easily store in the forward shower as in #1 above. Tom Charron MiVida #631 tomcharron@alamedanet.net

Posts: 310 12/24/05 09:51:44	On board our boat, the cushions are stored down below in either the starboard cabin or on the settee bench. We have 6 pc. We also have two of the blue folding sport a seat chairs. Lots of stuff !! When I open the boat, all is immediately taken out. Should it rain, its stored under the dodger. We also have a collection of "throw cushions" that come out to the cockpit. They are typically thrown overboard with 50 foot of poly when the kids swim off the stern. We fear mildew and so we don't place them in the lazarettes. Our new cushions have minimal stitching , unlike the stock cushions that came on board the boat. We do the vinyl cause our kids are young and we do alot of grilling in the cockpit. CAthy, Tri cabin

Posts: 246 12/25/05 23:24:29	I have often thought the solution would be to have the bench cushions modified so that the folded so that they moght stow on the port side shelf that runs the length of the aft cabin. Ours were stowed in the aft guest cabin or over the companion way under the dodger. Occassionally, bagged and stowed in the Vee shower stall our forward Vee locker behind the mirror.

Posts: 680 12/26/05 20:31:47 Moderator	I did the same thing I did on my C36 many years ago, have them split & hinged. They fit perfectly in the forward shower (pullman) as you can see from the photo (see link below). I had them deleted from Catalina & had them made by the guy that did the rest of the canvas (Tom Mares). He actually piped them to match the rest of the covers. The hinges are getting a bit tired after lots of use & 8.5 years, but still fully functional. Instead of hanging towels... on the lifelines to dry, I try to hang them in the shower area. True, it takes quite a bit longer for them to dry, but if you open that hatch, it's not bad on a summer day. Posts: 95 12/28/05 11:22:33	I had new cockpit cushions constructed out of 4" non-absorbent foam covered with high grade exterior white vinyl. When aboard, the cushions remain in the cockpit. Since they are "waterproof," it doesn't matter if we have rain. When not aboard, the cusions are stood on edge in the galley on the port side of the boat. (2 cabin interior.)
