So I was changing out both batteries and disconnted everything including a cable that acted as jumper between the two batteries. Of course, I forgot which terminals it was connected too. Any suggestions? Also, what does this cable do? Thanks!

Assuming you have 2 4D or 8D batteries (the big ones) the jumper would go between the negative terminals to tie the grounds together. You need to connect the 2 "-" posts, either at the battery box with a jumper of longer runs to the main negative bus. The short jumper would be more logical and common. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that should do the trick!

It actually depends on how many cells in the batteries. If you have the 4D, 8D or any 12-volt battery (has 6 @ cells to add water) they're probably in parallel. That means you tie the + of one to the + of the other, then - tied to other -.
If you have 6-volt batteries (like golf cart batteries), they would have 3 cells to add water on each battery. Then you tie the - of one battery to the + of the other battery (considered "in series"). That would make a bank of 6 cells to add water. Be sure the connectors in this "tie" cable don't have any other wires on them, as they would only get 6-volts. ~~~~_/)~~~~

If you have 2 12V batteries and they make up 2 banks, (1 and 2), you jumper the ground (-) terminals together and then to a negative buss. The (+) terminals are wired to the battery switch positions 1 and 2..
If you're wired with a separate start battery and the 2 batteries in the aft locker are a "house bank", the negative (-) terminals are jumpered together and the positive (+) terminals are wired together. The negatives are then wired to a negative buss and the positive set to teh house bank switch. If 6 V batteries, wire them in series as Norm discusses.
