Posts: 0 06/26/04 15:54:17	Tags : None Signed the paperwork this week. A new C42 3 cabin is on its way to the northwest. We should see it in September. The sale of our C30 closed yesterday. It's going to be really weird to be without a boat for a few months. On the bright side, we just got back from a trip up the Gulf Islands to Nanaimo and had a great time. It was a good final trip on the old boat. Ken Fischer

Posts: 0 06/27/04 15:50:58	Congrads on your purchase. we did the same thing. We had a C30 (T) and fell into a great deal and purchased a new 42 before we knew it. We have the 3 cabin centerline as well and it is awesome. We have had her out sailing and man, what a boat. We have a full batton sails and this boat points and performs in the winds like few boats I have sailed on. The living accommodation's are super. The move from a 30 to a 42 are a little intimidating at first, but the more we sail, the smaller the winch drums become. congrads again!!

Posts: 0 06/27/04 16:33:41	I didn't see wheel size as an available option. I assume you are talking about an increase in diameter? We went with the mast furling main. While the drawbacks are well documented, the flukey winds around here mean you only hoist the main when you know you will use it. With furling, you use it more often. Besides, the large genoa gives this boat much of its power - we opted for the 155. I had an opportunity to sail a 2003 C42 and was pleasantly surprised at how easily it sailed - it really wasn't much different than the 30, other than the momentum slowed a few things down. We opted for the traditional 3 cabin pullman. The forward head in the pullman was too good to pass up, and was one of the features that originally drew us to the boat. Ken Fischer

Posts: 617 06/27/04 19:08:40 Moderator	The 48" wheel is not a standard option. You just ask the dealer for it. My boat was shipped sans-wheel. The dealer ordered one from Edson, I paid thru the nose. It was more expensive than should be, but, in hind-sight, well worth it. I can sit on the low-side gunnel & drive perfectly, seeing quite well. Other demands I made to the dealer were: ALL ball-bearing sheaves, NO friction ones. Foot-blocks, genoa cars, mast head sheaves, EVERY block, ball bearing. I had the factory delete the Dutchman. Dirties the main much too-much! Besides, I see dock neighbors tweak the Dutchman in the slip too much. I even went up a neighbor's mast to re-attach a new mono-fillament line. Too much maintenance. I had the dealer install an EZ-Jax system. Went up the mast only once in 7 years to maintain it. Mainsail still pretty clean. Deleted toilets from order. Had dealer install Raritan hi-boy toilets. Works GREAT! Had dealer install autopilot w/300 core & Type II linear drive. Handles boat in just about everything. Bit pricey, WELL worth it. Upgrade main halyard winch to 44ST. That may be standard on newer boats. Installed a second complete 25-watt vhf radio in the cockpit, with it's own antenna. Great for redundency. Had dealer delete factory fixed prop. Had dealer install Martec 3-blade feathering prop. Bit pricey, but WELL worth it. Posts: 70 03/22/05 14:07:24	oscar: i replaced our wh on our 3 cabin #93 in Tortola during last fall's storms what a pain took the new unit and parts on the plane. if you are still looking for hints, certainly willing to offer advise and walk through. I dismantled the old rusty unit and replaced old wooden base boards, cleaned and repainted engine compartment, took off the exhaust jacket, fridge condenser, fridge freon lines (plugged them) engine water lines (plugged) and engine lite to install new unit.
