I am in the process of having my boat (hull 492 1995 model ) surveyed in order to apply for what is know as the CE Mark Class A. This is a European standard
for sailing boats. All Catalina 42s since around 2000 have this CE certification but mine was built before it came into effect. Most of the changes that I
have to do to make the boat conform are minor such as labelling escape hatches and gas appliances etc.
The only significant change that has to be made is to the height of the cockpit sill at the companionway. On open transom boats this must be 300 mm but on my boat it is only 235 mm. I am curious to know if Catalina raised the sill to conform or whether they found another way around this ? Perhaps someone out there with a boat built after 2000 could measure the sill height and let me know ?
