I posted this originally in the Misc archive of the technical forum, but received zero replies. My apologies in advance for cross posting, but I thought the general forum might get a little bit more exposure.
My wife and I currently sail a C-320 "Second Star" and we love our boat. One of our goals is to do some cruising aroud the Caribbean and perhaps farther in our own boat. While Second Star is absolutley perfect for Lake Ontario, we are looking for something larger and more robust for blue water sailing.
Since we have been delighted with our C-320 naturally we are considering Catalina as a candidate for our next larger, liveaboard, long range cruiser type boat.
What is your opinion on the C42 as a boat for extended cruising? I am particularly interested in your opinions and observations regarding hull durability, strength of the rigging and the handling in heavy weather. Any and all opinions and advice greatfully accepted.
Thanks in Advance
