Electric Freshwater Head Recommendation |

Looking to replace aft manual head with Electric Freshwater Head. Choices look like Raritan Sea Era, Jabsco Quite Flush and Wilcox Crittenden Newport. Any recommendations based on experience?

We went for the Sea Era with the sea/fresh option and separate pump. Now, with the flip of a switch, we can flush with fresh water when we are in the ICW, and we switch to seawater when we go to the Bahamas for a couple of months. It works great and we haven't had the first bit of trouble over three years.

Our 2003 was initially set up at commissioning with a fresh water diversion valve allowing for fresh of sea water flush on both heads. This effort alone will resolve almost all odor problems. An in-line filter on the vent line also helped along with Odorlos.
The forward head remained a manual flush for simplicity. The aft head was set with a similar electric unit. A pull pin and bolt release allowed for instant conversion to manual pump. The only negatives were the noise level and the amp draw. Everyone aboard knew your business. The original thought was that guest to stupid to comprehend a manual flushing marine head could certainly grasp the concept of pushing a button. We werer proven wrong numerous times. Those to dumb to understand the instruction "sit for all commode functions" proved incapable of independent use of the electric head. These failings did give me pause to consider the application of an "electric chair" format as a means to reinforce the rules. The head systems are one of the more important systems on the boat that will assure a pleasureful time. Cost is the 3rd and least important consideration. Maybe a Tazer or simple cattle prod coun\ld be used for the reinforcement of specific head use rules? |
