Posts: 3 12/23/05 02:14:39	Tags : None Hi I'm close to buying a 1996 2 cabin pullman C42 MkII. The boat is lying in Florida and I'm in Auckland so it's a flight to view the boat. I'm 6'3" and concerned the forward pullman berth may be too short. I was wondering if anyone could measure the actual length from bulkhead to bulkhead for me please? Or do you already know? Also - what areas should I look at for problems? Many thanks Richard

Posts: 317 12/23/05 06:38:23	Richard, I've never measured except with my 6'2" body and I fit just fine. I even lived aboard the boat for two years without any loss of sleep. Unless you sleep with your arms stretched out over your head on the pillow, you will have plenty of room at 6'3". As for problems -- I don't think you'll find any in the design and overall construction of the boat....anything you might look for as far as being a problem will likely have come from hard use or neglect by a prior owner. I read the article below (see URL) which said the berth was 6ft (72 inches) which seemed short - but I guess you shouldn't believe everything that you read! Many thanks for taking the time to measure and comment - very much appreciated! Seems almost everything you read about the C42 is positive - plenty of happy customers. Richard

Posts: 317 12/23/05 16:55:55	Richard, I'd recommend that you buy sheets custom fitted for the C42 berths -- especially the pullman. The bunks can be a challenge to make up and keep tucked in. Buy the highest thread-count sheets you can find too -- at least 300 count. Posts: 310 12/24/05 13:24:30	My husband and I are very long sailors. I normally take the outside of the pullman so I can get up at night. My hubby is 6/4" and has no issue with the pullman. We recently purchased an inner spring mattress from Catalina. THe hardest part was getting it out of the wooden crate they delivered it in. REally !! We use standard Q sized Walmart sheets. We are concerned that our young kids might bring pens or markers into the pullman. They play up forward during incliment weather or long cruising. We invested in a nice waterproof cover for the mattress. It does breath. I don't have any issues getting the sheets on. Other boating stuff like getting up from the starboard lazarette are more difficult !! The mattress was NOT as WIDE as the old latex mattress. Something to ponder. Diff about 2" which I felt was HUGE. $500 ish. I find that the "edge board" above the drawers needed screw reinforcement on our boat. We just make sure that the mattress is tucked up against that. Posts: 3 12/25/05 22:45:18	Hi Peter Thanks for that - makes me feel a whole lot more comfortable! By the way - you say you have been living on board for 3 years. Is it just yourself or are there more of you. Do you use the shower on a daily basis? I plan on living in a marina with my girlfriend, but we will both be working full time and will have to wear suits and shower every day. Is the shower / toilet on board able to handle daily use. Do you have enough storage? Any hints and tips would be very much appreciated. Etc - how do you go fitting shore power to fridge etc? Any help would be more than welcome. Regards Richard
