Lady Kay is an 89 boat, but the 4JHBE has a 1999 date stamped in it. The hour meter may or may not have been replaced at the same time, I suspect it has, and shows 500 hours.
She's smoking a bit, and it's diesel, not oil. (I can smell the difference) so, were not combusting nicely. I did about 8 hours of motoring and that did not help.
My first thought is injectors. Here are my questions to the resident diesel specialist.....
*Do you agree with the diagnosis, or should I check something else first?
*What is the lifespan of an injector?
*Do I take them out and bring them to the appropriate shop, or is there something else I can do first?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
