Posts: 7 04/23/06 18:29:52	Tags : None Greetings: I am looking for on-line sources for the overhead hatch shades for my MKII and for a spare v-belt for my Yanmar. The shades seem to be hard to find in general. I live in the Boston area and any suppliers with Yanmar parts are a long drive from home; I would like to find an on-line supplier. Thanks! SarahB

Posts: 680 04/23/06 19:04:21 Moderator	I recommend everyone on this forum make 2 separate top-level posts for 2 totaly different threads. The important v-belt may get lost in the shade threads. Besides, when we archive these, I expect 1/2 of this information will be in the wrong archive. Don't forget browsing the Jump To pull-down on the bottom of the Forum home page. However, in my experience, the most failure prone part in the system is the fuel filter, followed by the raw water pump impeller. V-belts fail slowly and usually start slipping well before they break. Filters and impellers fail without warning. Even if you don't change them yourself, having a spare on board allows a friend or a mechanic to replace them without waiting for parts. That's a good thing too if you're out on a cruise. Posts: 208 04/25/06 12:03:16	Don't know what kind of hatch shades you are looking for but if you just want an inexpensive solution to hot sun beating in, try using the material that is often seen on car windshield folding shades. It is silver on each side and is probably made of mylar and it has "bubblewrap" as the inner layer. Buy a roll of it and carefully cut it to fit each hatch. Will last a couple of years before you replace them. Does an excellent job and is nearly free! (by boat standards). Colin

Posts: 391 04/26/06 10:37:27	I think I would be pretty cautious about using any material for a shade that reflects heat back onto the underside of the hatch if it is ever kept closed.
