Getting tired of cleaning the rust around the steps on the stern ladder I yearned for the days of my catalina 30 with its tubed steps sans white plastic flats that are 5200 and pop riveted which causes the oxidation. after removing the steps and cleaning, filled holes with silicon and then covered with 3m nonskid(Grey) I used a soldering iron to melt the seam where it came together and it looks like a single heat shrinked fit. It streamlines the look, is less maintenance, and provides great nonskid traction.
