I am considering purchasing an AB Navigo inflatable RIB, which from time to time when conditions warrant I would like to keep on the forward deck. I do know whether to get the 9.6 or 10.6 feet model. Does the deck accomodate the 10.6 feet model without a struggle?

We store our 10'4 Achilles inflatable on the foredeck and there is plenty of room.

Jack,
As one suggestion, here are some photos of our set up for carrying the dink on the forward cabin top. The rails are heavy stainless steel and thru-bolted and back plated. For short distances inside the S.F. Bay, we just tow the dinghy, but for rough weather or outside the Golden Gate it goes on the rails. This rig has been through 45+ knot winds and green water over the deck without any trouble whatsoever. The second photo with the jerry cans was taken during our cruising days. When the dinghy isn't aboard (for day-sailing, etc.) the rails make terrific hand-holds for foredeck work. www.catalina42.org/photos/rod-26.jpg www.catalina42.org/photos/rod-61ee.jpg As a general comment to the group: We just bought a Vesadock set up for storing the RIB at the marina. Our marina allows floating dinghy-docks (in some locations) and the one I have now is pretty lame. We took our Aquadutch 10 foot HP floor to the Catalina Rendezvous stowed deflatted and rolled at the base of the mast and tied securely. Did not obstruct the headsail or sheets. Upon arrival and moored, I inflated on deck and used a spare halyrad to hoist and set the inflated boat in the water.
On the return trip, we opted to tow. Wind was up and favorable and we were making 6-6.5kts. While it would have stowed iniflated ont he fore deck, it would have presented a minor obsticle to the sheets and head sail. I think that if it were an ongoing concern, I would opt for davits. |
