I am purchasing a set of Kato davits for my 96 42 MkII (selected after researching and reading everyones input on this board!!). In discussing the installation with the Kato folks, they indicate I'll need two rail supports (one each side of the swim ladder) which run from the top stern rail and are attached to the small flat area on the top of the storage lockers on the transom outboard of the hinge - one each side. And that the base of each davit is attached to the top of the stern toe rail just inboard of the rail stanchion. I am going to hang a 10' Aquapro RIB with a 9.9 Nissan outboard total weight @ 250# max.
I have two questions for your collective expertise/experience:
1) Anyone have this rail support configuration and does it work okay? Anything you'd do different on the rail supports?
2) The toe rail is reported to have an aluminum "bar" or form under the glass inside the stern toerail which would make a good mounting surface for the davit base. Has anyone installed it there and did you machine screw into the toerail or drill and tap the aluminum bar to take a machine threaded bolt?
Any other pre-purchase & pre-install advice or warnings anyone might have is also welcomed.
