A few months ago we saw Hull #1 in Cape Coral, FL, which had a PVC tube over the lower portion of the backstay. When we raise our dinghy on our Wells Arch, it would rub against the backstay as well as against the wire ties that were holding our SSB wire. Since installing a 2' x 1.5" tube cemented to a 6' x 0.75" tube the dinghy raised much more easily and the SSB wire is much more protected. It actually looks much better than it sounds, especially if you are careful to buy the bright white PVC tubing. Just thought I would pass that along.
