We don't use much propane, and it seems that I'm always hauling more-than 1/2 full bottles to be filled because I can't tell how much propane is left. These tanks seem like a good solution.

Has anyone with a Mark I hull replaced their propane tank with one of these see-through ones? My tank holds 5 lbs. The smallest one made by this company is 10
lbs., but the dimensions are very close. My locker is a very tight fit for the fuel bottle. I'd like to know of anyone else's experience with these
tank bottles.

Steve,
The company sent me a diagram with the dimensions. I've asked Norm to help post it here.

Hi Rod,
I wanted to put one of these on our boat before we took it to Mexico for the same reasons you mentioned. At that time I was in contact with the company and if I remember right the cylinder does fit in our locker. I will be at the boat tomarrow and I will measure the locker and get back to you if you don't find out before then. Their date of delivery kept being delayed, so we went with our regular cylinder plus a small steel one hanging on the rail for the bbq. The fire video of the cylinder on their web site is impressive. Say hi to Sheri.

I checked the older propane tank this weekend while I was on the boat. The original tank is 10 lbs./ 3 gallons. I measured the boat's propane locker and
the new 10 lb. see-thorough tanks should fit with room to spare.

The see through propane tank is a good idea that has been a long time coming. However, there are other solutions that you may consider.
I carry a second tank. I got tired of filling half filled tanks at the beginning of the season. I store it in one of the transom boxes that is vented outboard. The second solution, probably the least costly, is to carry a one pound cannister and a "Bottled Propane Adapter" WM #315269, that mates the cannister with the boat propane fitting in the propane locker. The fitting is available in West Marine for about $26. |
