Posts: 31 05/14/08 10:49:48	Tags : None Ok, my fresh water woes are still causeine me furstration. 1. I only keep on tank open at a time. (problem, one tank doesnt have pressure to fill filter bowel) 2. After all tanks are full, and water in bowel, the pump runs but will not pressurize. My fix open all tanks to fill filter bowel, this filter is next to the fresh water manifold, once bowel is full, I pull the line leading to water heater, replace it and presure builds, water system works.until a tank runs out then back to step 1. one tank will not fill the filter bowel.....so if I lay down and tap it and open tanks and then get upset go out fill empty tank it fills then have to remove line from water heater and it works....aaarrrrgggghhh...WT? Oh, I have also noticed, when I fill forward tank the water leakes into the boat from the fill tube, is this normal, is there an over flow at the top that leads to the inside of boat? Any ideas? Posts: 327 05/14/08 13:05:42	Barry, None of this is "normal." I'd be in the dealer's face about now..... There is no overflow that leads inside the boat. The pump should be able to draw from any tank. While you do have 2 tanks beneath the cabin sole, you're pump should be able to lift a couple of feet to prime the pump. You appear to be drawing air from somewhere. Since it's from any tank, I'd go over every fitting between the manifold and the pump with a fine toothed comb. Make sure there is an O ring at the strainer (filter) bowl. Make sure all fittings are tight. What pump do you have? Could possibly be a stuck (building debris) check valve in the pump. Water supply is simple but needs one thing to operate on the suction side and that's an air tight system. Is there anything else between the manifold and the pump? a t fitting for a manual pump? Anything at all? If you can't find the leak, I'd try disconnecting the water inlet line from the pump and fitting a hand pump to the line and see if I was able to suck water through the system. If you can, that points toward a bad pump. If you can't....find the leak. To keep pressure, you do have to "bleed" the water heater by running the hot water faucet until air stops coming out. Posts: 191 05/14/08 13:13:58	I'm assuming you are opening a tap or faucet to get the water pump to prime? I'm also assuming that you know a tank valve is closed when the handle is oriented up and down. Horizontal is open. If a tap or faucet is not opened, the water pump will never prime. Otherwise, you probably have an air leak in the plumbing between the manifold under the sink and the water pump. No insult or slight intended here. Just making sure there are no gremlins. To test for this leak, once the pump is primed, close ALL of the tank valves and open a faucet. The pump should immediately speed up and the water from the faucet should slow and stop. If it doesn't speed up right away, and and the water from the faucet starts to spit water & air, you have a leak. With the faucet off, if there is no leak, you should hear the water flow into the lines when a tank valve is re-opened. The first place to look for a leak would be the bowl under the sink. Take the bowl off, lightly coat the sealing o-ring with grease, and replace. As far as leakage with filling the forward tank, most often this leak is from the inspection port on the top of the tank. As the tank fills, it bulges and breaks the seal on the inspection port. To cure the leak from the forward water tank on my boat, I made a gasket for the port lid out of cork gasket material. Posts: 29 05/14/08 14:41:29	Barry I had the same problem on #903. It seems Jabsco had a problem with the pumps. I replaced the bad pump with aspare I carry and sent the original for warranty repair a quick turnaround 5 days. I was advised by the repair facility not to open the pump as it voids the warranty. Posts: 107 05/14/08 14:50:02	Since your boat is new - you need to talk to the dealer first - One clue though, is you mentioned that, when you fill the forward tank - you get water in the cabin. More than likely its the inspection port in the forward tank. The tank holds a lot of water and bulges - the dealer should have sealed the port with a gasket. If its loose it will also draw air into the lines -mine was so loose that I literally could push on top of the tank and loose gallons of water out of the inspection port. A little silicone sealer did the trick there. The water system is the achilles heel of the Catalina 42 - the factory should adress this in the near future- the fix is as simple as gasketing the inspection ports. My other suggestion is to clean your water filter under the sink - mine was filled with debris from the tank and almost plugged. Peter C'est la Vie Hull #746
