I have a leak that comes from rainwater running down my mast on the starboard side and pooling on the companionway by the berth. So far this is occuring
when we have thunderstorms with very high wind, which is what we had Sunday morning. I woke up about 3:00 am and stepped in a pool of water. During normal
showers and when washing the boat I don't have water coming in. The wind direction was coming from the port side, almost beam on gusting from 25-45 mph.
This is my first experience with a keel stepped mast. Can you expect compression of the collar on one side such that you can get water inside?
The original owner of my C42 built a nice looking teak housing for the mast trunk in the pullman berth. It stops about 18" short of the companionway
floor. The water reaches that point then drips right on the center of the companionway, since the wind is healing me to starboard in the slip. The water is
actually coming down the outside of this housing, not down the trunk of the mast itself, since the tray the mast sits in appears to be dry. A couple of areas
I've been told could be a problem are 1) deteriated boot at the cabin top 2) shims (or partners?) have slipped and aren't holding mast centered. Any
other ideas or experiences?
The first time I experienced this (I've only had the boat since November) I was told it was from humidity sweating in the boat. That is not it!! It's
not a lot of water, but it is discoloring the floor where it has sat when the leaking occured during periods I was not on the boat.
