Posts: 54 04/29/08 09:50:45	Tags : None In the process of removing and repairing my fresh water system pump, I damaged the outlet PVC pipe, just downstream of the connector to the pump. The damaged pipe runs from the pump to the manifold located under the cabin sole at the foot of the companionway. Before I get too far into the repair, I wondered if anyone can offer me some advice. Is it relatively easy to "splice" a new section of the PVC piping to the old, or am I faced with having to replace the entire pipe? I don't have any experience working with leaks in PVC piping. Actually, I was surprised to see the rigid piping in use when I bought the boat -- I'm used to the flexible water hoses used on my prior boats.

Posts: 263 04/29/08 10:09:43 Moderator	I don't think you can splice the rigid pipe so it depends on what kind of damage it suffered and you may have to get a replacement. The water systems on the 42 that the factory supplies is actually quite good. It's made by Whale and here is their website. http://www.whalepumps.com/marine/product_list/6/ You need to make sure that the ends of the pipe is squared off so that it seats properly and then it won't leak. Posts: 228 04/29/08 14:49:04	They have connectors that you can splice the whale system water pipe and you can buy the water pipe too.... Look on page 523 of the West Marine Catalog .... You can also go from the 15mm whale hose to standard water hose... If you need further ionfo add a post Peter 466 -2

Posts: 145 04/30/08 13:20:44	There is a bit of slack in the pipe between the pump and the manifold. If the damage is not too far up the pipe, you can remove the Whale fitting, cut off the bad piece and reinstall. You might also shift the pump slightly on the plwood base if needed. Mine is just held down with 4 x 1 1/2" #10 oval head screws. If all else fails then a couple of Whale 15mm straight couplings and a short piece of blue tubing will fix the problem. Just be prepared to do a Harry Houdini, while laying on your belly over top of your batteries to do the job.
