Anyone monitoring this forum that has information on cruising around New Bern and Oriental North Carolina? I am considering this area for retirement and a new
home for my C42. I also was wondering about good Marinas in the area?

Peter,

We left our boat at Whittaker Creek Marina outside Oriental for a couple weeks last fall. The folks there were very good about taking care of repairs to the
boat in our absence. The place looks a little too rustic in some respects, but is overall a scenic, picturesque place to keep a boat.

Peter, I have sailed in the Oriental area for the last 8 years, the area is about as perfect as your gona find. Sailing in the sounds gives you many
destinations for one day, two days a week, or more, of course, most of the destinations are somewhat remote, but thats what I enjoy the most. Three days gets
you in to the Chesapeake or to Charleston or Savanna. I have made the Bahamas in 5 days. And if the weather is not so friendly, you always have the ICW as plan
B. The village of Oriental is still a working fishing village, no McDonnalds, not that McDonnalds is a bad place, but Oriental is a small friendly place. It
claims to be the sailing capital of North Carolina, for good reason. I highly recommend Oriental for the kind of sailing I do.
