I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 Catalina 42 #982 (Knotty Buoy---(I'm a surgeon)). I've done a lot of reading and searching on this forum about all sorts of topics. Great forum you have here. I'm currently having a Freedom 2000w inverter with Link 2000 installed aftermarket before taking final possession from the dealer. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about such things so I'm having Nav-Sol out of Vancouver Washington do it before bringing the boat from Portland to Ladysmith BC where she will sit permanently.
I'm confused as to the terminology that keeps popping up. The boat has an 8D wetcell windlass battery under the lazarette and 2 additional 8D's in the "garage". Stupid question but do bank1 and bank 2 refer to the 2 batteries aft with each one being a bank? Or, is the windlass battery considered a "bank" with the 2 aft considered the second bank? Does the "house bank" refer to only the 2 aft batteries? I was talking with the person who will do the install and he was planning on having the inverter wired with the 2 aft batteries. The foreward windlass battery is not going to be part of the system. Does this sound right? Before having the install done I want to confirm that the way the inverter is wired in is going to be correct. Any particular issues that I should address in the system design. I want to be able to run a 2Kw generator when away from shore to recharge the batteries.
Please forgive me if the questions sound naive, I'm still a bit low on the learning curve.
Also, any thoughts on 2kw vs 4kw raydome?? Is the performance of the 4Kw worth the price difference?? Will someone who is not a radar expert appreciate any difference in performance?
Thanks all

That being said, I would prefer to make the most out of what I have
right at the moment if feasible. I think an upgraded alternator will be in the works at some point in the not too distant future.
