Posts: 145 04/06/08 14:50:31	Tags : None Help! I am trying to replace the head discharge hoses with the white dometic sanitation hose. The stuff is stiff as board and a royal pain in the butt to manoeuver. After much pushing and twisting, the admiral and I managed to run the hoses through all of the twists and turns. For the life of me however, I cannot get the end of the hose over the barb on the holding tank. The barb is about 3.5 inches long and smooth, but I cannot get much more than 2.5 inches of hose onto the barb. I've tried teflon spary, and a heat gun, but I'\m still about an inch short. Does anybody have any ideas? would vasaline work? or would it damage the hose? I know that if I clamp it off, it'll leak and I'd just a soon get the problem solved now before it gets used! Posts: 143 04/06/08 16:21:55	Addison: I don't know if it will help you but I have used LanoCote on my hoses for years with no ill, and much good, effect. I would apply it liberally on both hose and nipple, warm the hose (not the nipple, which I might rub with ice just before I try to put the hose on) and give it a try. I have found that it will ease installation and removal, even on hoses such as exhaust, which can stick to the metal. I also used it on all nuts and bolts of my deck hardware, especially where putting stainless through aluminum or plastic. It is also the ONLY thing that will lube Marlon thru hull balls effectively. I suggest you double clamp the hose with the clamps rotated 180 degrees from each other to prevent leaks. Good luck on such a worthy project! James Collins

Posts: 210 04/06/08 16:40:12	The standard hose barbs are 1 5/8" to match standard dimension polyethylene pipe. Sanitation hose is 1 1/2" ID so unless your boat has special barbs it's a tough fit. If your fitting is white plastic with several ribs it might be the one for poly hose. Defender carries adapters and connectors for the sanitation hose. Posts: 169 04/06/08 20:29:21 Moderator	We warmed ours up with a hair drier - less danger of melting the hose. You can just stick it in one end and warm the entire hose. For lube, we used the same stuff that's used to lube wires going through conduit. It doesn't evaporate as fast as soap, but does eventually go away without leaving anything sticky. I hadn't thought of cable lube, but that might be what the doctor ordered, although I'll try Lanocote first because I already have some. I knew getting the new hose on was going to be tough because I quite literally had to cut the old one off, by nipping through the reinforcing wire, one wire at a time. Posts: 6 04/09/08 09:44:46	In the past most boats used the black rubber hose that used a barbed fitting that went on without too much effort. When the white sanitation hose came on the market everyone had this problem. The internal diameter of the white hose is smaller than the rubber hose. and it does not stretch much You can either replace the fittings with the smaller white nylon or grind the barbs off so the hose will fit. If you use heat be careful as you can damage the hose by over heating.

Posts: 103 04/09/08 20:52:20	Here is what I did to make the connection with the white hose to the holding tank. Boil some water and stick the end of the hose into the boiling water - leave it in the water for a minute then take your finger with a litle dish soap on it - coat the inside of the hose with the dish soap - slip it on. You will be surprised how easy it is. If you can't take the hose to stick in the pot - take the hot water to the hose..................Simple. Peter C'est la Vie Hull #746

Posts: 103 04/12/08 12:57:37	You are talking the forward head or rear head - but ten feet should suffice. I used 8 ft for the rear and the same for the forward head. the same for the vent - 8ft is plenty unless you want to add extra curliques and yes on mine its 5/8" . Make sure you do this on a nice hot day - ahhh the aroma - the earthy smell. And don't forget to boil hot water to dip the hose ends into and dish soap so it slips on easier. (Why hot water you ask - so you don't overheat the hose and make it brittle because if the hose gets brittle you will have fun scooping the stuff out of your bilge) I usually brace myself with a brandy or two maybe even 3 glasses and then dive into sh* - sewage. Good Luck ps - Everyne asks me why the picture of the boat is cropped ??? I really don't know - everytime I tried to fix it -it comes up the same ....maybe the CA 42 is too sexy and they are censuring the picture.
