A few weeks ago I met the retired cabinet maker for the East Coast division of Catalina who lives just a few miles from me in St Pete, Florida, and was talking to him about the doors and a few other things. He is French so you can picture him, visiting my boat and turning up his nose at the doors I had, saying "theeese will neverrr do!"
He made the most incredible set of companionway doors that I have seen. They are 1" thick teak with 1/2" thick Lexan. Since I needed batten boards, he made me a set from the same 1" material. I think they are bullet-proof!
The doors use heavy duty Perko solid stainless hinges and lift off nicely to stow on the shelf next to the companionway stairs.

Incidentally, the cost was about 1/2 of what they are advertised for on line.
