Filter Size for Racor and secondary filter for Diesel Fuel |

I recently changed the racor filter and the secondary filter. What micron size for the racor should I use? I did replace the original 10 micron with a 2
micron. Also, there is no micron size rating for the Yanmar secondary filter( spin on). What size should this filter be?

Mack Boring, East Coast importer of Yanmar engines, recommends a 30 micron (only!) primary filter (on the bulkhead) and a 10 micron secondary (on the engine).

Thanks guys for the info, that has been great. It seems that there is a tremendous amount of variance of the filter sizes especially on the primary. At the
present time, I will stick to the 2 micron in the primary and what ever the Yanmar filter is. On my Cat 36, I always ran a R24S Racor which is 2 micron, and
never had any plugging of these filters. I do watch the quality of the fuel I buy- only from large suppliers.

DOn,
By using a 2 micronon the racor, you might as well never bother to replace the yanmar filter. All contaminaes of a size that would be "caught" by the Yanmar filter will stop at the racor. Think of it as a series defense. You want the fuel to hit the more coarse filter first and the finestl filter should be last.
