With the ladder down and the dingy in the water access is not a concern.
However I had Garhauer make the Davits one foot higher than standard so there is no "ducking under" Dave Zeuli |

While you are at the Toronto boat show, you should look at the Atkins and Hoyle Davits. I have some on Fortune Cookie.

I wrote this in the Nov. '07 Mainsheet and I quote: "One thing you have to be careful with however is using the stern rail as the davits primary support. The stern rails were designed as rails, seats and in later models outboard motor racks, the weight of a dinghy cantilevered over the stern is a significant force. The davits must have additional support added and not be attached solely to the stern rails." With all that weight and it being up high as you are describing, you need to be careful about the effects on the boat structure and weight distribution and trim on the vessel. As you describe your plan, this needs to be paid careful attention to. Weight on the ends of a vessel - particularly up high - is not a desirable trait and will affect performance. See my previous post re. height of Davits - I just spoke with Ocean Marine (Vancouver BC) He quoted instances where the mounts have torn loose in heavy seaway and his concern was how davits are mounted and how the back pulpit is supported with additional reinforcement.
