Hi Everyone, Has anyone converted the aft holding tank to a fuel tank, we're away at the moment, cruising the Queensland

We removed the aft holding tank and had a fuel tank fabricated to fit the space using the holding tank as a pattern. The fuel tank is actually a bit bigger
because the holding tank does not occupy all the available space. The plumbing is difficult. We use one fill line with a valve to direct the fuel into the
desired tank. A vent line is shared by both tanks. It would be better to have separate fills and vents if you can fit them in somehow.
The secondary tank holds 30 gallons which is a significant improvement in capacity. We bought a 10 gallon off-the-shelf holding tank and located it in the lazarette on the floor with a macerator pump on the bulkhead in front. The head hose takes up a lot of space passing through the fuel compartment and if you don't need a holding tank, you might want to replumb the head to go overboard somewhere close to the head. While we were preparing our 95, 2 cabin MkI for Mexico we handled the need for additional fuel by adding a 20 gal tank in the bottom of the port lasseret(?).
Catalina Yachts,(Woodland Hills CA, see Robert in parts) had some new tanks for the 32' boat that they couldn't use. The fill had been welded 90
degrees off. That 90 degrees worked good for my purpose. We installed a fill connector and a vent on the port side in the same area as the original on the
starboard side.
A jockey pump was installed to pump fuel thru a filter, from the aux tank to the main tank. The control switches were located at the helm. We use the exisiting fuel gauge by selecting main tank or aux tank. Fuel is transfered to the main tank only when the level in the main is under half. It takes about 10 mins to transfer 20 gals. By filtering the fuel before it enters the main tank we now have no need to use a baja filter. We have a dual Racor system for our main fuel filtering needs. We also carry 3, 5 gal jerry jugs of diesel and 1, 5 gal jug of gasoline on deck. We now have around 75 gal total, fuel has been plentiful in Mexico. We are starting our second season in Mexico, this system has met our needs.
