Hi Gene,
The bulging tanks is not such a big problem (caused by the thin plastic) in as much as the distorting inspection plate that leaks, it doesn't stay intact and this shouldnt happen.
Also I recently spoke with a C42 owner who told me his cabin sole bulges badly when he fills his water tanks.
I'm not suggesting expensive, over engineered tanks should be used, but something a little better is needed. My old Islander water tanks were 3x as thick and half the capacity, in fact I've never seen a boat with water tanks as thin and as big as on the C42, even the B*n*teaus have it better! I cant imagine it would add much to the cost of the boat.
If we don't talk about these issues, they will never get fixed. When I called Catalina about it, the engineer said he had never heard of the water tanks leaking, but all the Dealers seem to know about the problem and caulk them shut.
The Catalina is a great boat, but imagine how much better it could be if the current users get the factory to fix these small issues.
