I'll offer what I've observed, FWIW. We have a 2-cabin pullman Mk I, which came from the PO equipped with a 16K btu unit mounted under the
semicircular settee nearest the main athwartships bulkhead. Intake is in the footwell of said settee, and outlets are split--one up high at the forward end of
the port salon 'bookshelf' (which has been accommodated by installing teak panelling out flush with the inner edge of the bookshelf--gave up some
precious shelf space there), one at the same place forward of the bulkead to cool the forward stateroom, and a painful ducting installation to add an outlet in
the aft stateroom--augmented with a switchable in-line booster blower.
I know you're discussing a 3-cabin model yet think some of our lessons might be useful.
First--we also have a system that starts the cooling water pump first then the compressor after a short delay--and it doesn't tax the dedicated 30A circuit
to do so. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but anticipate that even my 1850 Watt portable generator might just bear the load--I'll report outcomes
here when I try it. (We don't have a permanent generator installed, and are trying hard to live without one . . . )
Next--we find that operating all four of our Hella cabin fans does wonders to circulate the cool air throughout the boat--so I think the suggestion of putting
larger fans at the two aft cabin hatches certainly could help.
Finally, here in Baltimore it is often humid and temps are in the mid-90's--ESPECIALLY this week--yecch. It makes a huge difference when we deploy our
shade-providing awnings, cool the deck with water, and block solar gain from all exposed hatches, either with external covers or internal ones extemporized
with folded towels inserted between the glass and screens. When we don't have occupants in the aft stateroom, we block the air vent there and reduce the
load by leaving the space closed off, and it makes a noticeable difference in the rest of the boat.
Also--the inline booster blower seems like a cheap option applicable to any multiple-outlet application. Works well.
Hope some of this helps--
Cheers,
Doug Boyd,
