I am thinking of buying davits for my 1998 Mk 2. Any strong recommendations?

Hi Charlie. Check out Garhauer as you know they make good products at fair prices.

Hi Charlie
My next door beighbour has the Garhauer davits and I have the Ocean Marine. The Garhauer davits are much better. He bought the heavy duty ones with the cross brace- if I were to do it all over again - I would buy the exact system. His cost was also lower - low enough to buy a case or two of brandy. Thanks for the info. I will definitely check out Garhauer. Anyone used Kato Marine?

Hi Charlie
I seem to remember a lenghty discussion on the merits of the different brangs of davits. If you search with the keyword davits you will very likely find a plethora of information - but I seem to remember that the cosensus of opinion was Garhauer, considering the cost. Peter C'est la Vie Hull #746 |

I to am looking to install dinghy davits and talked to Mark at Garhauer today. Does anyone have a picture of an installation? I may have shot myself in the
proverbial foot when I installed a pole mounted satellite system on the stern. That's why I need a picture. Mark did not have any pics so I'm hoping
someone here does.

Charlie: I have the Kato davit and like it. It appears they use a very high quality stainless steel. I can't recommend their motor davit unless the
have made changes to the mounting system.

Thanks Bob, it seems that Kato Marine take pride in their quality. I like their web site as well. One of the problems I am having in pursuing Garhauer
Davits. for example, is the fact that their web site provides so little info. I saw a couple of examples of Forespar davits this weekend and was very
dissapointed in the quality. The search continues.

Bob, I forgot to ask, do you have any pictures of your davit installation? If you do not can you describe to me what hardware you used. I have been looking
at what might required and how the davits would be mounted. It seems the davits would mount between the seats? What kind of a lower bracket do you have and
where does it attach? Do you have the stabilizer bar? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Charlie: Pictures might take a while as I'm leaving for a long weekend on the boat so I'll try to described the installation. Each davit mounts to
the transom (same place where the stern rails mount) with an "L" shaped bracked. Next they are attached to the sop stern rail and finally there is a
support from the top stern rail down to the lower transome and mounts behind the lazarettes adjacent to the boarding ladder. The latter prevents the stern
rails from bending when your dingy is hung on the davits. Mine were mounted when I bought ours so I don't know if it's standard or an option, but make
sure you get the bar that attaches to the outermost end of the davits (where the pulleys mount). This prevents the davits from turning and keeps them
correctly spaced.
If you decide to buy their motor lift, let me know and I'll share a mounting modification. You can contact me at bobduff@peganet.com Bob 776 |

I installed the Kato Marine davits during the commissioning over 7 years ago. They are high quality 316 stainless and have worked very well. I would highly
recommend them. Garhauer was not an option at that time. Given Garhauer's track record, they deserve consideration. Send me an e-mail if you'd like
pictures of the installation.
