I have the Panda 6 kW generator in the starboard aft lazarette. It is tight, but I have changed the oil and changed the impeller. The impeller failed fairly quickly, and the lack of water burned up the exhaust hose. I replaced that as well. (There are supposed to be interlocks, but there were no warnings and no automatic shutdown.)

There was a "recall" on this unit, and a couple of service guys actually changed the outer bearing on the generator, without a great deal of difficulty.

I did not watch the service guys, but I don't think it is possible for an adult to get in beside the Panda unit. I have done all of my work either from the top, from the aft cabin, or from the port lazarette. For the latter, I disconnect the autopilot and the rudder restraint to give better access.

You did not say which Panda unit you have. On the 6 kW unit the impeller is reasonable accessible, just to starboard of the rudder post. If you have a different unit then my comments may not apply.
