Opening Port leak |

Life's Tough has developed a leak in the opening port in the cabin over the Pullman berth. This is the oval shaped port fro Lewmar. I seem to remember some discussion on this but can't find it now. Any advice?

As I recall the first two, and easy, steps are to first make sure the seal is clean, both rubber and "glass" side. Then you can tighten the fasteners.
I also recall someone mentioning caulking the gap on the ouside frame..... If all that doesn't help I believe it's removal and re-bedding time. |

I'm presuming we have the same ports; they have locking push tabs versus a threaded arrangement for clsoing. If they are the same and the leak is between the lens and rubber gasket, I had the same problem. Remove the plastic trim ring. The male tangs on the frame that tabs lock onto are removable and have shims. Remove one or two shims and that should stop the leak. Bob 776 |

I removed the plastic shims from each lock and that seems to have cured the leak.

I had this same problem. The following are two snippets from the discussion forum I saved that worked for me:
1)If your port gaskets are leaking, and unless they're dried out and cracking, try cleaning the gaskets with plain water and lubricating with Vaseline. Same for the overhead hatch gaskets. Replacement O rings: #41 O-rings. 2)Re: Lewmar ports There is a rather simple fix for these leaking ports. Look to see if the alum frame on the outside has the joint on the sides of the frame. Catalina - after a certain hull number- switched to Lewmar supplied ports where the joint is on the bottom and they are more leak proof. Anyway, if you do have the joints on the side of the frames, then put a little dab of water proofing sealant like Lexel on the joint. This stopped our leak immediately and I was at the point where I was going to replace them too. This Lexel stuff is clear and I found it at a well stocked local hardware store nearby and it cost around 4 bucks. 90% of the time this will fix your leaking ports.
