We are in the process of moving our "treasures" from our previous yacht (C36) to our new 1990 C42. The galley is posing some issues and I am sure we
will come up with solutions, but thought I might get some ideas from those who have been at this a while.
Can and Dry Good Storage:
The C36 while not the greatest galley in the world has a dry locker that with a bit of customization held enough cans and dry goods to keep the stomaches with legs happily full for weeks. There is no really obvious spot for these on the 42. The shelves over the counter are okay, but with the sliding acrylic doors and no dividers I am afraid that we will be collecting dented tins from a damaged sole on a regular basis.
Pot and Pan Storage.
The c36 had one drawer under the sink that was deep and wide enough to hold pots and pans and other larger galley items. On the 42 some items can be stored in the oven but of course you need to find somewhere for them while the oven is in use. A few items will fit in the shelves over the counter, but it doesn't seem all that secure for the same reasons as putting canned goods in them. There is a bit of space under the sink that could be modified with shelves, but I think I will need that space for garbage.
Garbage:
A problem on most boats, the only place I can imagine is the space under the sink for a little can.
Thanks for the advice I am sure to get and as a reward for answering these questions you will likely get more!
