The under-deck fittings on my cockpit shower became very brittle and failed at the end of the season. I need to replace the entire valve assembly. Can
anyone tell me what the best type of system to get might be? And, can you give me any hints to tackle this project?

Steve,
Two options. - Call Chris at the Catalina factory (Parts) parts and tell him what you need. He is a wizard at coming up with the right part for any year 42. - Remove the existing shower control and replace it with a mixer faucet from a local or online marine store. It took me a while to find one a couple of years ago, but ultimately found one in stock on line. Try Chris first.....

We replaced ours with a Scanvik MM102000MM. The two holes for the lines are larger then the ones on the new faucet so I used two plastic thru hull fittings cut
down to the thickness of the glass as bushings. Works and looks great. Much better the the OEM. If you wish I can supply photos.

We replaced our with a Tempo SHower valve a couple of years ago. All plastic.nylon so no corrosion potential in the wet location. I think it cost about $25. Unfortunately, It appears that Tempo is now out of the faucet business. Gotomarine.com still lists it in their on line catalog ( http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=70390F ) with a "please call" on availability, so you might get lucky and find "new old stock" somewhere.
