I'm looking into buying a used C-42 and I'm wondering what kind of typical motor sailing speed to expect. Here in Oceanside, CA we get a lot of light wind days and we do a lot of motor sailing. With a light breeze filling only the main (up for stability) what kind of typical speeds would you expect? I'm used to around 6.8 to 7.0 kts in a Beneteau 36.7 and I'm curious what I might be trading into. The boat in question is a 1995 MKI model with a three blade Martec folder I believe I was told.
I searched some in the forums here but didn't come up with much. A couple people mentioned cruising at about 7 kts. I'm talking about running at around 80% of max RPM or so.
