Can someone suggest how many quarts of bottom paint to buy for one coat? Its that time again!

Most paints I have used require about 4 quarts to properly coat the bottom. Read the manufacturer's directions as to the actual requirements.

Are you thinning the paint? The last time I was able to use just 1 gal was my 30 footer. If you are using an ablative type paint, two coats is recommended. I've been using Trinidad 75 for almost 30 years and get about 18 months before a re-paint.

I use Micron Extra, slightly thinned (3-4 oz/Gal) to get a smoother finish. 1 gallon/coat. 2 coats every other year works well for the middle Chesapeake.

Sound like I purchase 5 quarts and return one if I don't need it. I am using VC-17 - its a fresh water boat.

I used 1.5 gallons of bottom paint with two coats on the waterline and rudder and parts of the keel.

I just painted our boat today and used under 1 gallon of Fiberglass Bottomkote. It was about 60 degrees out and I thinned it about 5% and there was a steady 10 knot wind which may have brought the temps into the high 50s.
