The plumbing on my MKII is a semi-rigid plastic with fittings that appear to snap together. How do you disassemble the connections and where can I find them?

I'm wondering the same thing myself. However I did see in the 2006 WM catalog what looks to be the same fittings. I was thinking of calling Catalina but if anyone here has the answers, even better
Thanks, Later, Codge

This is kinda hard to explain without pics but here goes. The fittings have a cover that snaps off. Look at the fitting toward where the pipe is inserted. You will see a slot for a tool (I use a small screwdriver). Snap the cover off and slide it back away from the fitting. Under the cover is a 1/8 in groove with a plastic snap ring in the groove. Remove the snap ring (you should be able to remove the snap ring with your fingers). Next, from the pipe end of the fitting, push the plastic where the snap ring was into the fitting. The goal here is to close the grove where the snap ring was. This releases the piping. Now you should be able to pull the pipe out of the fitting. You may have to hold the plastic piece so that the groove where the snap ring was stays closed.
The fittings are reusable. Just reverse the process to mount the fitting onto a the piping. Remember to put the snap cover on first! Later model C-42s may have a newer Whale fitting - the website is here: www.whale.ltd.uk/document...screen.pdf Good Luck, Rodney Kidd, C-42 #567 Sashay, 2 Cabin Fin, Marina Village, Alameda, CA

I believe the fittings you have are probably made by Whale and are for 15mm water line. All of those on my hull #930 are.
Whale Water Systems Inc. 100 Corporate Place, Suite 402, Peabody, MA 01960, USA Tel: 978-531-0021 Here's the web address for their catalog, you'll find the fittings on page 31. www.whalepumps.com/docume..._nov06.pdf Releasing the fittings is a whole lot easier than trying to describe how to do it, but I'll give it a go. There is a collar or ring that must be pressed in toward the fitting that releases the hose. Once pressed in to be flush with the fitting flange the hose will simply pull out. To reattach, press the hose firmly all the way into the fitting. It must go all the way in to cause the collar to 'pop' into place and lock it. After you've done one you'll see how easy it really is. There are fittings around that are similar in appearance but they won't work with the Whale water hoses unless they're 15mm. My area home stores and marine stores had some things very much like the Whales but they were all for other sized hose, mostly 1/2'. Wouldn't work. Maybe there's a chandlery in your area that stocks the Whales or would order them for you. I finally called Whale's US folks and found them very helpful. They even shipped me a replacement fitting free of charge. They also gave me the names of several mail order folks for future retail purchases. One being Fisheries Supply (www.fisheriessupply.com) though there were others. Michael

Michael just described the new Whale fitting. You all should have one or the other depending on hull number. Thanks Michael!

Regarding:
There is a collar or ring that must be pressed in toward the fitting that releases the hose. That is the original style. Newer ones don't have the collet. If I remember correctly, just push the locking mechanism toward the fitting. This collet is basically a spacer stopping the releasing mechanism from accidently working so as to release the fitting. Seems more complicated than it is. As was pointed out, be sure to push the hose all the way into the fitting, otherwise it will leak. The best supply of these is Marine Exchange in San Diego. If you're ever near San Diego, must go there, Fantastic place. www.sandiegomarine.com/index.php ~~~~_/)~~~~

You can also get Sea Tech plumbing fittings that will work great on the 15mm tubing. They can be found at www.boatfix.com/
