Several years ago I made my own "shower sump". I figured the factory pump was quite adequate, just needed a float switch to automatically turn it on/off. I got an old plastic tool box & mounted Rule float switch in it. I disconnected the inlet to the factory pump & connected it to the tool box. That allows the tool box to collect water from the shower sump, fed by gravity. I then connected a short hose from the tool box to the inlet of the factory pump. I then ran the switch wires to the factory switch & put both switches in parallel. This way, if the sump box switch fails, the factory switch could still be used. Works quite well with a few small issues:

I should have run a heavier wire to the new Rule switch (may do it soon) as there is some additional resistance in my new electrical work, reducing the flow of the pump roughly 10%. I get most of the remaining water out of the sump by turning on the factory switch.

When I worked these hoses, the hose came off the pan at the bottom of the shower. There is actually no access to this hose clamp, so I needed to drill a big hole just above this hose clamp and installed a round inspection port.

You can buy complete systems like this, which include a pump, but I figured the factory pump is quite adequate so wanted to use it.

The new tool box sits on the hull, just below the pullman.
