Great day in Santa Monica Bay both Saturday and Sunday. Regretfully, returning and entering the main channel Sunday pm my alarm went off and the temp gauge showed a very high temp. I had ten guest (non sailors) on board that I had impressed with my sailing skills. They continued to be modestly impressed as I sailed back into my slip only restarting to make the final 100 yards and power down.
Upon inspection, I found that the bilge had pink coolant and there was a bit in the engine pan/bilge. I had the odor of burning rubber as well. I assume that I may have burned the impellor and or the pump and that the burning rubber smell may ahve been the V belt struggling against a buggered water pump.
I mopped out the bilge and cleaned it to remove any odors. I then called a mechanic to visit the boat this coming week to resolve the issue, however I would like to be educated in advance of his arrival as to wheter it could be simply the impellor as opposed to a pump.
The boat is a 2003 C42 with possible 180 hours.
Any thoughts or comments.
