Posts: 310 05/22/06 16:18:43	Tags : None On your Racor T Handle filter, are you guys using 2 micron or 30 micron. Seems that folks are all over the place about these. I change mine at the start of a season here in New England. I understand that you southern sailors probably deal with more "growth" than we might. So, how often are you "Northern" sailors changing your filters and what are you using in that Racor. CAthy, ------who just put in a 30 micron and then read the article in Cruising World where the fellow suggested "only 2 mc" etc.

Posts: 267 05/22/06 21:55:29	I use the 10 micron cartridge. I believe this is also the standard size for the spin-on filter attached to the engine. We are in South Florida, so I guess that is pretty southern. I don't understand the comment about "growth", however. Grunge in the fuel tank is bad anywhere. Even though the humidity is high around here, we don't have the temperature extremes that pump moist air in and out of the tank as the temperature changes. Posts: 22 05/23/06 06:31:27	Cathy, I have the dual Racor T handle and I use two micron filters with them. My engine filter is also a two micron. My reasoning was with the dual filter I would rather those clog up before the engine filter, because they are easier to change underway. My mechanic said I should use 10 micron in the dual filters, but since I have not had a problem with the two micron and because I just bought a case of them I will wait util they are used before changing to the 10 micron.

Posts: 248 05/23/06 15:59:05	The t handle filters are rated for turbines that are 60 gph units. using a racor 220 that has a gph of 30 with a 2 micron filter works great. If the filter clogs early you know you have a fuel problem. Better to have a fuel/filter problem then an injector problem. That is why we have aux fuel filters. There are great fuel additives that increase cetane and keep algae down. The gunk in the fuel is algae growing in the water produced by condensation, i.e. keep your fuel tanks topped off and occasionaly motor to !/4 of a tank. Burn off old fuel. There are also fuel services that will filter your fuel if you have a bloom. Returning your fuel to a pristine condition. Worse case scenario is gunk growing on your tank with constant blooms. Read Sail Magazunes article of a boat loosing power in 20 ft gulf stream do to clogged filters. Hope this helps
