I was curious if anyone has installed netting around the front of their catalina. There are no holes in the toe rail and I was thinking of just running a cable through the lower part of the stanchions. But I'm really hoping someone's already done it and can give me some advice.

On a C-42 we're prepping for the Pacific Cup, I used high modulus dinghy line tightly stretched from the bow pulpit, through the base of the first stanchion, terminating on the second stanchion (the one closest to the shrouds). I used that dinghy line has the base for lacing the lifelines to help keep the headsails aboard as we change headsails during the race. So far it has held up well. No holes in the toe rail!

With two young kids on board, I bought the netting and considered using either s/s cable through the base of the stantions like Rod suggested.... or I was going to screw pad eyes down every so many feet.
I procrastinated. You may want it so a sail doesn't go over.... maybe its not a kid issue. We just elect now to reinforce our rules for being on the foredeck with our two and their friends and we also force them on a jackline. No one has gone overboard in three years.
