I was out sailing this weekend on the boat with some friends and I noticed that the steering was rather jerkey.
It happens especially when we would hit a gust and the weather helm would load up. I know that weather helm causes resistance but should not cause the steering to be jerky.
Anyone have any comments on the steering of the 42 in 15-20kts of breeze? Is this jerkeyness normal? We had a full main and the 135% r/f genoa up. Overall I did not feel overpowered only in some of the bigger gusts. The good news was we had the boat crankin at like 7kts upwind The traveler was to leeward to help de-power rig.
Is there anything else to check aside form the rudder bearings and the cables?
Any tips on how to get that boat to go up wind with that stubby shoal draft keel?
Thanks
