I am thinking about installing an electric instantanous water heater (EEMAX from West Marine).
Anybody have any thoughts or experience with this, or like products, and their installation? (I carry a 2KW Honda generator for power) Thanks Mark Izablue #835/3 |

The Seaward water heater on the boat has a 1500 watt electric element. The 2 KW (rated about 1600 VA) Honda is sufficient to make hot water. It will take a
certain amount of time to heat 11 gallons of water. Some heaters may be more efficient than others, or they may be heating less water to a higher temperature
faster.
Check the rating of the heater that you want to buy. If it has a higher power rating than 1500 watts, it probably will not work with the Honda. (The Honda overload circuit breaker will pop.) |

Have you looked into the ITR diesel electric water heater. It is expensive ($2200) but works well. Continuous hot water in diesel mode and lots of hot water
on electric mode at the dock. I have it and we love it for the hot water it provides while at anchorage.

It appears that the smallest EEMAX draws 20 Amps. That is about 2.4 kW. Waaaay too much for the Honda 2 kW generator. I agree with the comment on the built-in Seaward heater. It is not instant, but it does work. Any excess heated water remains warm for a long time, so you would have a head start the next time you needed hot water. Thansk Darren, Gene , and pdrimmer for the reality check. I have hooked up my generator to the internal water heater but was looking for something faster. I
guess I have to remember, "patience is a virture"

The hubbel has a 400w heater .only draw back is it makes about 1 gallon of hot water, but it makes it quick.
