Has anyone re-rigged the outhaul for a MkII? My outhaul line that exits the forward end of the boom is too short to lead to the cockpit, which I would like to
do. Rather than splice an extension onto the existing tail, I thought I could just reave a longer new line. With the new line attached to the tail I pulled
the outhaul wire out of the aft boom end, and was suprised to find a 4 part tackle attached with a fiddle block and one (I think) single block residing inside
of the boom. Apparently the dead end is tied off internally at the forward end of the boom and I can see the rivets for the internal pad eye. It seems to me
that the only way to replace this line is to remove the gooseneck fitting by drilling out the rivets to gain access to the forward end of the boom. Am I
missing something, is there another way, or should I just splice it? Seems like there should be a way to check these blocks and change the rope.
