Bob, I recently removed my outhaul block and tackle with a single line, low stretch, running from the clew, around the aft sheave, forward and around the forward sheave, down to the mast base and back to the cockpit. I found inside the boom was a double block with a fiddle at the aft end of the outhaul line with the bitter end tied to the fiddle. This is apparently different from what you have. The line went from the fiddle, forward to a single block attached to the fwd end of the boom, back thru the double block, back forward and out thru the fwd sheave.

I decided to replace the outhaul block system because in a race recently the blocks got stuck and wouldn't allow me to loosen or tighten the outhaul on my new loose footed main. Since I plan to use the winch to tighten the outhaul, the loss of advantage in the outhaul line by removing the blocks shouldn't be a problem.

I think the only way to get access to the front of the boom is to drill out the rivets and drive the end off the boom, probably not an easy job. Good luck.
