Engine raw water strainer

Posts: 6 03/27/08 11:17:22	Tags : None I have a leak from the rubber O-ring between the body and the cover of the engine raw water strainer and wish to purchase a new O-ring. However, the problem is being in The Netherlands i seem unable to locate a supplier, I believe the manufacturer of the strainer is RL marine ( that is what the lable would imply). Are there any members that have a Yanmar powered 42 footer, around the hull No 113 that can help with a part No, manufactures name and a webpage so I can check for the actual item. Regards Mal.

Posts: 224 03/27/08 16:21:43	This is probably not going to help, but on our vintage boat the raw water strainer is made by Forespar, the same folks that supply the stock thru-holes. I had the cover crack on mine and when I contacted Forespar they sent me a replacement with new o-ring under warranty. I expoxied the old one and kept it as an emergency spare. Posts: 221 03/27/08 16:43:03	Mal, O-rings are generally standard items so you can probably find in identical one from a local supplier or at least one of metric dimensions that will be nearly the same. Many of our industrial customers also keep o-ring building kits with bulk material of 1.5 to 3.0 mm diameter which is cut to length and glued into a ring. I found this web site with many rings listed: http://www.allorings.com/size_cross_reference_framed.htm The size chart is a bit difficult to decode but the first column is a reference number, the second is outside diameter in inches and fractions and third column is inside diameter and the 4th column is the diameter of the material in fractions of inch. The adjacent columns show the metric dimensions. I would think you can find a local source from a helpful industrial supply house. I would suggest 70 durometer hardness.
