I am trying to reach the owners of the boat Irish Lady/Strange Bird to inquire about the front opening refrigerator door installed on their aft unit. I am curious where it was purchased or fabricated and if they are happy with the finished project. If anyone else has done this modification I would greatly appreciate any advise. thanks, Chris |

My recollection is that this was custom work done in the SF Bay Area prior to the modification made by Catalina at the factory with the newer, more robust door
design. I also recall a fairly steep price for this mod. Don't know of anyone else who has replicated this design. It is pretty nice.

The Irish Lady (ex-Strange Bird) is in a slip across from me in Marina Village Yacht harbor in Alameda, CA. I'll try to stop by soon and see if they can
respond to your question on the refrigerator door.

He sold the C42 "Strangebird" to Dennis Mahoney (recently deceased). Dennis raced the renamed vessel "Irish Lady" in the SF/Hawaii race.....much discussed in this forum last year. She ("Irish Lady") was moored a few slips from my "MiVida" prior to the passage of Dennis. And, "Strangebird" a few slips from me when Jay and Laurie Ailworth owned her. Hope this helps Tom Charron

Tom has this right, Jay is the one to contact for information on the fridge door. He was the one who commissioned its installation. I believe Svendsen's Boatyard here in Alameda, CA did most of the custom work on Irish Lady. I was the engineer/radio man/crew on Irish Lady in the '06 Pacific Cup... she was my comfortable home for 13 days on the crossing to Hawaii. Rodney Kidd S/V Sashay
