We will be purchasing a C42 this spring and will have her on a mooring in a sheltered cove. Can any of you advise on mooring equipment ? What weight mushrooms have any of you chosen to use, what size chain, etc. We will have certain restrictions but would appreciate advise from any of you who have had this same issue.

Cathy, I suggest a mooring system that can withstand a hurricane. When I installed a mooring in Black Rock Harbor, I selected an 800 lb mushroom, with a section of 3/4 inch chain (10 feet?) and 1/2 inch chain (12 feet?), then a 3/8 chain through the mooring ball (it is important to put it through the ball). I used two 3/4 inch mooring pennants with chafing gear where the line goes over the toe rail. You might check with the harbormaster. Most harbormasters have regulations for moorings (including the overall scope required), but I would caution that these are minimums. The may also require inspection before putting it in place and annually afterward, as in Bridgeport.

The link I've attached is a discussion of moorings from INAMAR. You might find it helpful. They strongly endorse helical screw moorings.

Good luck.
