Bruce,
I switched to the new traveler and block setup from Garhauer last year that added an additional purchase. I then switched to 10mm (3/8 inch) New England Ropes "Endura" braid and love it. It's supple, strong, low stretch (not a big deal for a mainsheet) and runs very smoothly through the blocks, especially when compared to the 1/2" stock double braid I replaced. The new configuration took 110 feet including about 10 feet for splicing and "mistakes". I got it on sale at SAILNET.com. They are currently asking 2.35/foot and offering a 15% discount from that. Not the cheapest solution, but worth the difference for me due to the ease of use. Sta-Set is about 1/2 the cost for 1/2 inch braid. Given you'll keep the line for 10 years, it's less than 1.00/month difference (Of course I'm spending the extra 1.00/month on a lot of things......) Good luck, Larry Melelana Catalina 42 #175 3cbn/wk |
