Question : what is the propshaft size? book say 1 and a quarter inches --- thats pre historic in Europe where we are all metric. What would this be converted to English inches and then to millimeters. Alaso what is the best prop diameter for the MKI with the 44HP yanmar?

Posts: 617 04/26/06 11:44:04 Moderator	You're right, 1.25 inch diameter shaft. Since the boat is made in USA, they use inches. A conversion I did shows 1.25 inch = 31.75 millimeter. Not sure about the 44HP, but on my 50HP the boat originally had 19" (pretty sure), I upgraded to 20" Martec 3-blade feathering. Posts: 144 04/26/06 18:33:41	Chris: On my 50hp Mk I, I had a stock fixed 3 blade, 18x13. Switched to a Flex-o-Fold from Finland (I think). It's a 3 blade folder, 18x14 and has been great - gained speed both under power and sail. On any special prop, consider the additional cost of the proprietary zincs. Posts: 246 04/27/06 04:07:07	FYI 44 and 50 hp Yanmar are the same. The diff is that the 44 uses cylinder jacket for a rebuild. They decided that the engines are so good and rarely needed rebuilding so no more jacket and a wee bit bigger cylinder + 50 hp

Posts: 94 05/05/06 08:59:01	My Mk1 with the 50hp Yanmar has a 19" AutoStream sold by Martec. I get 7+k at 2700 RPM and can go a bit over 8 at Wide Open Throttle. Reverse is excellent if a good drift to port on start up in reverse. The feathering seems to work as I sail well in all winds and race a small bit.
