Don't know if Catalina has it, but I would take the old one to the local prop shop. It's standard off the shelf 1-1/4" stock....Taper thread and keyway should runyou about $300.00 (Look here for comparison.... www.properpitch.com/pns.asp )

As far as rudder removal, depending on whether the boat is in the slings or on stands it is faster or slower. After removing the quadrant, autopilot arm, if installed, and stuffing box, support the rudder and remove the roller pin up top. Then lower the rudder out of the boat. In the slings no problem, on stands I'm not sure if a fin rudder will clear the hull, a wing rudder most certainly will not. Then you can either get the travellift back out, or dig a three foot hole under the rudder. (I have done that.)

For the DIY folks, the best tool to support, raise and then lower the rudder is one of those LARGE ratchet straps, available at your local truck stops or Ag supply. Hook the ends onto the stern pulpit, and run the strap under the rudder, so as to have the ratchet to the side of the rudder blade. Works like a charm

R&R shaft, then replace rudder.

If you're paying, two guys a whole day for a complete shaft replacement is pretty reasonable.

While you're at it....Do you have the old style stuffing box? If so you might want to consider putting a dripless in.
