Last year I also purchased a 42, hull 125 in Annapolis. The broker recommended David. David comes from a family that has a fiberglass boat building business so he has good knowledge of fiberglass boats. I've owned hull 175 (1990 3bn, wk) for 5 years now. Lots of good advice here, but the best thing you can do is get the very best surveyor you can find. Interview a couple and get references. If you share where the boat is located, folks on this board might know a good surveyor they can recommend. Before you commit to a survey, spend a full day conducting your own "pre survey." I originally called Garhauer with the idea of purchasing the 3-point system. When I told the guy at Garhauer my plan he offered up the free recall. I did install their recalled part for 1 year but eventually went to the 3-point as part of a larger project, mostly to get the 6:1 ratio on the traveller control instead of the stock 4:1. Otherwise the free upgrade was fine.
