I have a leak that comes from rainwater running down my mast on the starboard side and pooling on the companionway by the berth. So far this is occuring
when we have thunderstorms with very high wind, which is what we had Sunday morning. I woke up about 3:00 am and stepped in a pool of water. During normal
showers and when washing the boat I don't have water coming in. The wind direction was coming from the port side, almost beam on gusting from 25-45 mph.
This is my first experience...

Hi Barry

I know its only $150 and a pittance compared to a $200K+ boat, but I'll bet $1.50 worth of silicone and the same clamps will fix the problem just as well.
Your mast should be able to float slightly inside the mast collar. If you go below when you are sailing to weather in 15+ knots, you will see that the mast is
slightly off center to leeward.

FWIW I would be a little leery about putting a foam plug around my mast and removing the natural amount of play.

Yes its still under warranty, and yes the dealer should fix it, because it was never done right in the first place. But, because I want a long term fix, and
150.00 is a small price to pay compared to all the other projects, I figured I would fix it right and not quible over this. Oh, and why mine leakes, well, its
basicly because they just stuck the mast in the boat hooked up standing rigging and pulled the rubber boot over it tightend the clamps, and thats
it.....lol.....so I ask questions...

Isn't your boat still under warranty, and if so shouldn't your dealer address the problem?

I have the same problem on my boat. I am going to try Spar tight, I talked to the company and they say it will work, I have also talked to a few other Sail
boat owners and they say the stuff works, no more floods ruining the floor. I would check it out, its 148.00 investment and I think it will be worth it. I
will keep the rubber boot to protect everthing just for added assurance, but I am going with the spar tight stuff soon as it wams up a bit.
Cheers

Dan
Have you checked the bolts that hold down the mast collar? If the mast boot is in good shape, there may be some water infiltration through the bolt holes. I
had done some work on my mast collar and neglected to re-seal the bolts with bedding compound when I reinstalled. Sure enough, I was awakened in the middle of
the night by rain drops falling on my head.

The drip pattern from the bolt holes is just outside of the tray at the base of the mast, so it could account...

Dan:

I had what may be a similar leak on #450. At first, it WAS the boot seals which had not been well done, either by the factory or the PO. After I completely
resealed the boot, top and bottom and sealed the grooves in the mast that the boot would not close, it was completely tight and dry.

Except sometimes, when it would leak, not down the mast but dripping onto the mast from the cabin top inside the boat. After a great deal of fooling around, I
came to the conclusion...
