I recently installed a new vacuum gauge roughly in the middle of the hose between the secondary (Yanmar) filter and the primary (Racor 500fg) filter. The fuel
system is definitely bleed-ed (sp). It appears to be a high quality 2.5" diameter liquid filled gauge with a drag pointer (Sailor's Solutions). With
the engine running, the gauge is pretty much a blur looks like between 0-5 inches of mercury. Drag pointer stays at 5 when the engine has shut down. Engine
still runs great, no...

Did you ever resolve this problem? Also where was the guage installed?

As a proponent of vacuum gauges I'm sorry to hear your install didn't go smoothly.

We changed from a screw-on type to a 500 series racor and simply screwed the gauge on to the filter body and bolted it all on. But then we had placed the
filter body so we could get at it easily, so that left the gauge out in the open also.

On the gauge we installed (again, sorry I don't have the brand) there was a scale from approx zero resistance up through a...

Gene,

At 1st I thought of puting the gauge at the conventional place, suction side of the Racor. It would have been a pain putting it there (awkward to get there
& tougher to see), so I figured it didn't make any difference if I put it anywhere between the 2 filters. My location has great visibility once the
stairs are moved. That's my 1st experience with a vacuum gauge, and it is not as pleasant as it could have been. My feeling is all I'm basically
looking for is...

Norm:

FWIW, the needle on the gauge on White Star did NOT vibrate, at least not more than some tiny fraction of an inch, say 1/32". That gauge, (don't know
the brand) had a small (1/4") square graphic on the low end of the dial and the needle stayed in that box unless it was pulling some pressure due to old
filter.

As I recall, the gauge was attached to the filter directly, on the downstream side, though some versions replace the "T" handle itself....

Norm,

The standard solution for a vibrating gauge is to add a restriction or to add a small reservoir at the gauge. It is likely that the pressure in the middle of
the fuel line is actually pulsating, and there is nothing that can be done about that. It is the gauge connection that needs work. I am curious why you
installed the gauge in the middle of the fuel line. That seems like a potentially troublesome spot. The standard mounting at the Racor filter provides more...
